BigRoad Home Screen Updates
A Redesigned Home Screen with Notifications Feed and 'Today' Summary
Notifications now show in one place on the Home screen. They stay visible, and you can confirm them with a single tap when it’s safe to do so. Cards for tasks, like unidentified driving to review, take you straight to the screen where you finish them. This means fewer pop-ups interrupting what you’re doing. Below your notifications, a summary of your day shows your ruleset, log graph, and time limits, so there’s one less screen to open to check them.
What’s New
-
Fewer pop-ups. Messages that used to pop up and interrupt you now appear as cards on your Home screen. They stay out of your way while you use the app and wait until it’s safe for you to confirm them.
-
All your notifications in one place. Notifications are collected on the Home screen and stay there until you’re ready. When it’s safe, confirm each one with a single tap.
-
One main screen. Your timers, notifications, and a summary of your day are all together on the Home screen. We've moved the information from the Logs Summary screen here, so tapping the Logs tab now takes you straight to your daily logs.
-
Prefer the map? It’s your call. You can turn the map back on anytime in Settings.
Why We Made The Change
The BigRoad Home screen has been updated and redesigned to give you a clean, simple app where everything important is easy to find. It also supports Transport Canada’s ELD standard (version 1.3) and is available to all drivers in Canada and the US.
Home Screen
The timers at the top of the Home screen are unchanged. Below them are two sections that are new, and the Inspect Logs bar still sits above the menu bar.
- Notifications. A list of cards. The header shows how many items are waiting.
- Today. Information for your current day. Scroll down to see it. See The Today section.
- Inspect Logs bar. Roadside inspection mode still is one tap away whenever you're stopped.
Notification Cards
Each card has an icon, a short message, and a button on the right.
Icons
- An amber triangle with an exclamation mark is a warning, such as an approaching hours-of-service limit.
- A blue circle with an "i" is information, such as letting you know a setting was updated by your fleet manager.
Buttons
- Tapping the button confirms a message or takes you to the correct screen to complete the task.
Order
- Cards are sorted by importance: regulatory notifications first, then items that need your action, then setup and app reminders.
- Within each group, the newest card is on top, so a new card is easy to spot without scrolling.
Types of notifications
| Type | Examples | How it behaves |
|---|---|---|
| Regulatory notifications | Approaching an hours-of-service limit. Personal Conveyance or Ferry Provision distance exceeded. Yard Move speed limit exceeded. Time standard changed. Your carrier changed Personal Conveyance, Yard Move, or Ferry Provision availability. | Stay until you tap Confirm. Visible while driving. |
| Tasks that need your action | Unidentified driving to review. Logs to review and sign. Carrier edits to review. | Tap the button to open the right screen. Shown when you're stopped. |
| Setup and app reminders | Connect to your vehicle. Turn on Bluetooth. App update available. New message. App permissions. | Tap the button to open the right setting. Shown when you're stopped. |
The Today section
Below your notifications, the Today section shows information for your current day. These used to be on the Logs Summary screen.
It Displays:
- Your active ruleset, with a Rules button to change it.
- Your time zone.
- A compact graph of today's log.
- Other time limits specific to your current ruleset.
While you're driving
When the vehicle is moving, the Home screen locks to a simple view.
- Only regulatory notifications are shown. Setup reminders and tasks wait until you stop, then return to the list.
- Notifications are readable at a glance. You can confirm them with one tap when it's safe to do so.
- The Today section is display-only. The Rules and Defer Time buttons are disabled.
- The bar where Inspect Logs normally sits reads App locked while moving.
How to use it
Confirm a notification
- Look at the notification list on the Home screen. Newest items are at the top of each group.
- Read the card.
- Tap Confirm when you're able to. The card disappears from the list.
Below is the Home screen after tapping Confirm/Ok.
Tips:
- You can keep using BigRoad or any other app while a notification is waiting. Notifications don't lock you out of the app.
- If you leave a notification, it's still there the next time you open Home.
- The Logs menu tab shows a red dot with how many notifications are waiting.
Complete a task from a card
- Tap the button on the card
- BigRoad opens the screen where you finish the task, for example the unidentified driving review.
- Complete the task. The card clears from the list once you've finished everything it covers. If you have several logs to sign and sign only one, the card stays active until you've signed them all.
Review your day at a glance
Everything you used to open Logs Summary to see is now on Home.
- Check your timers at the top of the screen.
- Scroll down to the Today section for your ruleset, time zone, today's log graph, and other time limits specific to your current ruleset.
- To change your ruleset, tap Rules while stopped.
- To see your full list of daily logs, tap the Logs menu tab. It opens straight to the list.
Defer off-duty time
If your cycle allows off-duty deferral, the controls are in the Today section.
- On the Home screen, scroll down to Off-Duty Deferral Status and Time Deferred in the Today section.
- Tap Defer Time.
- Follow the steps in the existing Defer Time screen. These haven't changed.
If your cycle doesn't allow deferral, you won't see this section.
Start a roadside inspection
Tap Inspect Logs at the bottom of the Home screen, above the menu bar. It's available whenever you're stopped.
Bring back the map
If you'd rather see the map while you drive, you can turn the legacy map view back on.
- Tap the More menu tab, then Settings.
- In the General section, find Enable legacy map view.
- Turn the switch on. It turns green.

Below is an example of the Legacy Map View turned off/disabled.
With the setting on:
- The map appears on the Home screen while you're in Driving status and have no notifications waiting.
- If a notification arrives, it takes the place of the map right away. When you've confirmed it, the map returns.
- The Today section isn't there and the Logs Summary screen returns. The whole app goes back to how it worked before, except active notifications replace the map.
You receive the updated Home screen by default. You can switch between it and the legacy map view at any time using the setting. Your choice is saved on your device.
FAQ
Why did the pop-ups go away? Pop-ups interrupt what you're doing and block the app until you respond. Notification cards wait for you instead. You confirm them when it's convenient and safe.
I confirmed a notification by mistake. Can I bring it back? No. You can't bring a confirmed notification back unless the scenario that caused it repeats.
Where did Logs Summary go? Its content moved to the Home screen. Your ruleset, time zone, today's log graph, and other time limits specific to your current ruleset are in the Today section, and the Logs menu tab opens your daily logs list directly.
Do I have to use this if I'm a US driver? The new notification format applies to everyone. If you prefer to see the map while driving and the Logs Summary screen, you can enable that view with the setting.
Some pop-ups still appear. Why? Pop-ups still appear for things that require an immediate response. Examples are a confirmation before ending a duty status or a prompt when you start driving. These are part of what you're doing at that moment, so they stay where they are.
I use the map a lot. Is it gone? No. Turn on Enable legacy map view in Settings.
