Summary of Missing DVIR Conditions
| Type of Missing DVIR | Explanation of each Type of Missing DVIR |
|---|---|
| No DVIR within 24 hours | This rule is triggered when a selected vehicle moves and a DVIR hasn’t been completed within the previous 24 hours to when the movement occurs. This complies with the Canadian regulations. In Canada, DVIRs are valid for 24 hours once completed but are required during every 24-hour period the vehicle moves, regardless of whether any defects are discovered or not. |
| No pre-trip DVIR current day | This rule is triggered if a selected asset moves during a given day and a DVIR has not been completed that day for that asset. Start of Day If selected an additional field will be displayed that asks for the 'start of day' for this rule. Since the notification is for DVIRs not submitted during the current day, it’s important to know when the day starts, and therefore ends, for the purpose of this rule. The day will go from the selected 'start of day' until 24 hours later. For example, if the 'start of day' is set to 7:00 a.m. for one of the rules, it will calculate that day as being from 7:00 a.m. on the first day until 6:59 a.m. on the second day. Examples: • If an asset moves at 2:00 p.m. and the 'start of day' is set to 7:00am, the system will check to see if a DVIR has been submitted for the current asset since 7:00am on that day. • If an asset moves at 6:30 a.m. and the 'start of day' is set to 7:00 a.m., the system will check to see if a DVIR has been submitted since the previous day. If one has not, the rule will be triggered. Be sure to set the 'start of day' to be prior to when all drivers in this rule configuration should be completing their DVIR for any given day, or there will be excessive notifications. If you have different groups of assets that start at different times of the day, you can set up multiple rules for each group. If the same driver starts and stops moving multiple times on the same asset, only one notification will be generated. If a different driver starts driving that asset and a DVIR is not completed at the start of the day, a new notification will be triggered. |
| No post-trip DVIR | This rule is triggered when a DVIR hasn’t been completed for a selected asset, after the last time that asset moves on a given day. This complies with U.S. regulations that require a post-trip inspection for vehicles. In the U.S., a DVIR is only required to be filled out if a defect is found during the inspection. Some fleets, however, want their drivers to complete one each day, regardless of whether defects were found or not. This rule should only be used in the case where a DVIR is required at the end of every day the vehicle moves. Otherwise, there will be many false-positive notifications. Start of Day If selected an additional field will be displayed that asks for the start of day for this rule. Since the notification is for DVIRs not submitted during the current day, it’s important to know when the day starts, and therefore ends, for the purpose of this rule. The day will go from the selected start of day until 24 hours later. For example, if the Start of Day is set to 7:00am for one of the rules, it will calculate that day as being from 7:00am on the first day until 6:59am on the second day. Example: It is important to set the 'start of day' accordingly and to be aware of when the end of day is, based on that. For this rule, just after the end of each day (24 hours after the 'start of day'), the system will check if any of the specified assets moved during the previous day. It will determine when the last trip of that day ended and check that a DVIR was completed afterwards, but before the next day started. If there is no DVIR during that window, a notification will be triggered. Continuing with the 7:00 a.m. start of day example above, shortly after 7:00 a.m. each day, the system will check all specified assets to see if they moved between 7:00 a.m. the previous day and 6:59 a.m. the current day. It will then determine when the last trip of that time period ended for each asset and check for a DVIR having been submitted for that asset. If a DVIR was not submitted between the end of the trip (for example 10:00 p.m. the previous evening) and 6:59 a.m. the current morning the notification will be triggered. |
