Defects
Let’s review how to add minor and major defects in the Inspect module.
Followed by how to view, edit and sign off on previous defects and repaired defects.
Unity Inspect Module – Minor Defect
The inspection schedule(s) for the selected assets will be displayed. Each of the categories can be expanded to show specific defects that need to be checked for.
Follow the steps below to complete a DVIR:

Login in the Unity Inspect App

From the main menu icon (top left), tap the Inspect module
- Tap the + Inspection button

Choose an inspection type, options include Pre-trip, In-transit and Post trip

Type in the location of the inspection (location will populate automatically if location services is enabled for the Unity Inspect app)

Tap the Carrier Name drop down and select the appropriate Carrier Name at the time of the inspection

Select the asset(s) for inspection (all assets that were either assigned or selected in the previous step will show to inspect, you can uncheck any you don't want to record an inspection for)

For brand new assets, select the dash odometer units. If the asset has a Fleet Tracker, the Odometer value will auto-populate based on the most recent value received from the asset, optionally you can manually type in the asset Odometer this field will indicate if it has been marked as mandatory by your fleet admin.

Click the drop down to select the inspection schedule
Inspection Schedule options are pre-configured by the fleet admin.
When you add a new inspection, you will now have the option to add up to 4 photos for each asset you are inspecting. These photos may be optional or a minimum of one photo may be required based on a setting your administrator can enable.
- Tap the Camera icon for the any of the Assets you would like to add a photo for
- From the drawer, tap the Add all asset photos option
- With your mobile device take the required photos (max. 4 per asset)

When you have added all of your photos, tap outside* the drawer*** to close it

Tap the Next button

To record a minor defect, tap the arrow to expand the desired row

Tap the Plus button next to the appropriate defect
If enabled in the Unity Inspect web app, you will need to go through each category and either add a defect or check the box that says there are no defects in the category. You will not be able to advance to the submit screen until all categories have been checked.
Note: Current defect count (major/minor/repaired) next to each schedule name that you will need to review during inspection.
The defect conditions are pre-defined to be minor or major. Minor defects will have a toggle button indicating it doesn’t affect safe operation of the vehicle checked. This can be unchecked if it’s a more serious defect that needs to be fixed immediately. A note must be added whenever a defect is recorded.

Ensure only the asset the defect was found on is selected.

Within the Description box, type in the details of the defect

For a Minor Defect if the vehicle is not safe to operate, toggle the button to off for Does not affect safe operation of vehicle

To add a photo of the defect, tap the + button below Attachments
- Choose whether to take a new photo or select one from your photo library
Photos can be added to a defect to provide a visual record of what’s wrong. The fleet administrator can enable a setting from the Unity web application to make photos required. If enabled, then at least one photo will be required for every defect added.
- When a photo has been added it will be displayed within the Attachments section, to delete a photo tap the x button on the photo
Note: If enabled by the fleet administrator, a photo of the defect may be required (a message will appear that at least one photo is required).
- Tap the Add Defect button
Once the defect is added it will show within the category of the schedule.
