Inspections – Non-Fleet Assets
The ability to allow inspections of “Non-Fleet Assets” can be enabled by the fleet admin.
If your fleet admin wants you to be able to complete inspections for assets that do not belong to the fleet and that they do not want to add to the fleet’s asset list, they can enable a setting to allow you to inspect “Non-Fleet Assets”.
Inspect Module – Non-Fleet Asset
To inspect a “Non-Fleet Asset” start the inspection first by assigning any fleet assets that you are using in the Assignment module, then start a New Inspection. You are not required to have any fleet assets selected.
Follow the steps below create a DVIR for your Non-Fleet asset:
-
From the main menu icon (top left), tap the Inspect module
-
If you don’t see the fleet asset(s) you need to do an inspection for, tap Choose assets for inspection
-
Type in the Search field to locate the asset(s) you need to inspect
-
Tap to select the desired asset(s)
-
Tap Done
-
Tap the Start New Inspection button
It is important that you do not use the “Non-Fleet Asset” option for any asset that does belong to your fleet, or your fleet records will be inaccurate. You will also see a warning message on the screen to indicate this.
Follow the steps below to complete a DVIR for a fleet asset and a Non-Fleet asset (you can also inspect a non-fleet asset without a fleet asset):
-
Choose an inspection type
-
Type in the location of the inspection (location will populate automatically if location services is enabled for the Unity Inspect app)
-
Tap the Carrier Name drop down and select the appropriate Carrier Name
-
Select the asset(s) for inspection
-
If the asset has a Fleet Tracker, the Odometer value will auto-populate; optionally you can manually type in the asset Odometer
-
Click the drop down to select the inspection schedule
-
From the Non-Fleet Asset section, tap the + button
-
Type in the Asset Name for the Non-Fleet Asset
If you enter a license plate number for a “Non-Fleet Asset” that already belongs to an asset within the fleet’s asset list, you will not be able to proceed and you must go back and assign or choose the asset from the list to inspect it.
An inspection for a “Non-Fleet Asset” is a one-off inspection. These assets do not get added to your fleet’s asset list. If you need to inspect the same asset again, you will need to add it in the same way and re-populate the information. Defects also do not carry forward, so if the defect remains unrepaired, you will need to add it again on the next inspection.
Follow the steps below to create a DVIR for your Non-Fleet asset:
-
Type in the License Plate for the Non-Fleet Asset
-
Select the License Plate Jurisdiction
-
Manually type in the asset Odometer, and select the odometer unit if you are adding an asset that does not have an odometer or hubometer, choose any odometer units and enter 0 for the odometer value to proceed
-
Click the drop down to select the inspection schedule
-
Tap the Next button
-
You can add a defect for a Non-Fleet Asset the same way you would for a regular asset see the Defects section for detailed information
-
Submit your inspection, and any defects added will be sent to Unity for your fleet manager to review.
